More recently he has produced unstretched as well as stretched paintings. They have been widely exhibited and are in more than 13 public collections. Gilliam was an artist fellow of the Washington Gallery of Modern Art Workshop Program, 1968. In 1971 he exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art’s Projects series and also received a Guggenheim Foundation Award.
